PLACIDA, FLORIDA. In March 2002, the GIBA was presented with a state public works award for their new toll plaza, road and swing bridge improvements. Each year, the Florida Chapter of American Public Works Association (APWA) hosts an Awards Banquet to recognize select Florida public works projects that have improved transportation or recreation in their community while significantly upgrading the levels of quality and value available to the public. The Gasparilla Island Bridge Authority and their primary project plans engineer, Kisinger, Campo and Associates (KCA) were recipients of this award. Specifically, the award recognized the outstanding use of environmental-friendly building materials, natural xeriscape landscaping, and safe traffic flow and toll collection safety.
